The tech world stops at nothing and evolves all the time. To stay relevant in today’s online marketing world, SEM Specialists can’t afford to be out of the loop. They need to be up-to-date with changes and look for ways to elevate their skills to be even more efficient. It may sound daunting, but once you embrace the change, learning tech skills will improve your life as a SEM Specialist. If you don’t know where to start, try JavaScript and start your programming journey!

What’s JavaScript?

JavaScript is a commonly used programming language, which literally brings websites to life. It’s a language which powers the Internet by making it dynamic, interactive, and user-friendly. It shapes our world, whether through websites, apps, or the tech connected via the Internet of Things. It’s also the easiest coding language to learn, besides HTML and CSS. That’s why it’s often recommended as the first language to learn. It’s a good foundation if you want to build on your programming skills later on.

JavaScript can be used in various projects: from building simple landing pages to apps. However, what is important for digital marketers are the tracking codes that use this language to make it all work so well. JavaScript pretty much powers all the major tools that SEM Specialists could use in their daily work. It’s the main reason why learning this programming language should be more appealing to the marketers willing to level up their skills.

Why should SEM Specialists learn to code in JavaScript?

Forget the days of “fake it till you make it”. To get ahead in the digital world, you need to be ready for change and approach tech advancements with curiosity and wonder. The good news is that you don’t have to be an expert in everything. A basic understanding can take you far in the world based on data, algorithms, and scripts.

In the data-driven world, we can put the myth of marketing spontaneity to rest. To make it work, you need correct data and the willingness to learn new things, as new tech is currently popping up at every corner. You need to understand how to put all the advancements into work to reap the rewards later. These days, understanding the code is a vital skill in many industries.

Gaining coding skills can save time and money. It’s especially important if a coding issue needs outsourcing. By knowing basic code, you can figure out some of the issues and fix them yourself. In case of advanced issues, you can always reach out to the tech team. Even  basic knowledge of coding can improve communication between marketing specialists and programmers. It’s a major time saver if the teams working together are on the same page. Furthermore, if you understand how scripts work, you can help the tech team immerse themselves faster in the new tool. Ultimately, it speeds things up and leaves no space for frustration and misunderstanding on both sides. It’s easier to address the issues and apply needed changes. At the end of the day, you’ll understand the technology in your daily work better.

Another reason is that it optimizes manual work. SEM Specialists learn how to automate simple tasks and can focus on other important work. As a SEM Specialist, you understand your needs the most. You know what exactly is consuming most of your time and with coding you can solve most of these issues. The scripts can run analyses, do easy fixes, and prepare/issue reports in the background.  Once you learn this skill, you’ll be asking yourself why you didn’t try it faster.

Google Ads get bolder with the usage of scripts. That’s why it’s good to understand how they work, what they can do, and how to change them to better fit your needs. When you understand JavaScript, you can even improve the existing scripts in the account.

Conclusion

Online marketers shouldn’t be afraid of embracing tech skills. They’re not as scary as they sound, and they can make their work easier. Learning the ropes of JavaScript will improve communication with the tech team, save time and optimize your work. In the end, it’s worth it, and you’ll see the improvement in your career as a SEM Specialist in no time.
